The National Geography Bee is open to open public and private school students as well as students participating as part of a homeschoolers association. The student must not be over age 15 and must be participating in a curriculum regular with the age level and classmates.

To enter the National Geography Bee, the principal of the university or the head of the homeschoolers association must send a letter on school or association company letterhead along with an enrollment cost of $60 previous to October 15 most years. To participate in the National Geography Bee school level competition a minimum of six students must be present from the eligible grades.

Pertaining to schools and homeschoolers groups who have met the eligibility and registration requirements of the National Location Bee, a packet of test materials is dispatched in mid November of each and every year. Prior to the middle of January, the school level tests are completed and the champion at the school level takes a state being qualified test. Only the top 100 winners of each state go on to compete in state competitive events for the National Location Bee.

This year, the state finals of the National Geography Bee will be held on Apr 4, 2008 and the winner from each point out will carry on the Domestic Geography Bee final to be saved in California D. C. on, may 20-21, 2008.

The the year of 2007 National Geography Bee champion was a 14 season old home-schooled eighth grader from Redmond Washington. Wa state holds the business lead for the amount of winners of the National Geography Bee with five students keeping the title as a result state. The 3 years ago winner is merely the second girl to win the competition since it commenced in 1989. Her award is a $25, 500 college or university scholarship and a lifetime subscription to the National Geographic Magazine.
